Godly Offspring

Throughout the Bible we find that God made no secret of His desire, not just for Godly individuals, but for whole families as well.  Often, when He called a man or woman to Himself, He also showed them a glimpse of His plan for their sons and daughters – even their grandchildren!

Abraham, who is known as the Father of Faith, was called out of an idol-worshipping land.  Immediately, God showed him a divine destiny:

…..The Lord had said to Abram… "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you…all peoples on earth will be blessed through you…look up at the heavens and count the stars - - if indeed you can count them…so shall your offspring be…kings will come from you" (Gen 12:1-3; 15:5, 17:6, NIV).

From Abraham issued the patriarchs Isaac and Jacob, known as Israel.  From Israel came the Twelve Tribes, the Priests of God, King David, King Solomon, and all the Prophets - - and eventually, through the body of a humble young woman named Mary came Jesus, some of God and Savior of the world.  Can you imagine - - all of this passing by your eyes in a split second?

From the moment that God revealed His plan to Abraham, every boy and girl who was to come from his seed was a marked child.  If you were a Hebrew child, you knew it.  (from Marking Your Children for God by Anne Gimenez)
