Group targets 'religion-based bigotry' against gays
According to usatoday.com, a nonprofit group called “Faith in America” has launched a five-state campaign to end so called "religion-based bigotry" against gay people.
All five of the targeted states are scheduled to hold early presidential primaries or caucuses.
Currently in Greenville, South Carolina, the campaign includes "full-page newspaper ads, radio and TV commercials and billboards.
Organizers also plan to knock on thousands of doors and hand out literature to draw attention to their cause.
The Greenville News reports that the campaign will culminate in a town hall meeting Nov. 13.
Today's newspaper ad shows political leaders such as Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton and the Obama family and says, "Religion-based bigotry has been used by those who wanted us to believe... women are inferior. Races are unequal. Interracial marriage should be banned." Now it's being used by people who oppose equal rights for gays.
The group is also running a TV ad featuring the mother of a youth allegedly killed over his "sexual identity."
Similar campaigns are planned in New Hampshire, Nevada and Florida.
